I have two Golden Retrievers, Lilly and Rocketdog, that hang out with me. Lilly is head of HR, Rocket is in charge of Security. That's an inside joke because Lilly barks at people and Rocky shows people where I keep the good stuff, then loads the truck for them.

Last fall I started getting a small calico cat sitting at the edge of the woods and 'talking' to me when I would go out to feed the deer. We have feral cats around - many are quite large - and all are tigers. I don't mind, they keep the squirrels and other rodents away. They even go after the lizards that the road runners miss.

This little one is a calico(?). The other cats would chase her off on sight. I started putting out a small dish of food for her and she would be waiting every morning. I named her 'Patches' and after a couple months she would answer from the woods (sometimes from up a tree) when I called her.

Anyway... I started finding squirrels in the shop and was not happy about it. I also had a couple of lizard families breeding under/behind the shop 'fridge. One day I noticed that the squirrel tracks on the Cougar were old and there were fresh tiny little cat prints on the Cougar. Then I realized that I had not seen or heard a squirrel or lizard in a couple of weeks.

One morning about 2 months ago i went out to do the feeding thing and no Patches. I figured something had got her. I open the shop and hear her meow. She had spent the night up in the loft.

Ever since she has had a bed in the shop and gets locked in from 10PM to about 5AM. Now she comes and goes as she pleases during the day, eats out of my hand rubs up against me when I am working, follows me everywhere and comes running when I call her. She is even getting to a point where she just climbs higher when the dogs come around rather than running off into the woods.

I am NOT a cat person. We have had house cats because Cheryl loves them as do Lilly and Rocket, and I swore that darn cat was just a wild animal that comes and goes as she pleases, but next week she goes to the vet for the 1st time. Exam, shots, spaying.... I refuse to buy her a damn collar though.

I'm not a cat person......or at least, not a "untended" cat person. Neighbors have several that pee in our flower beds. Smells bad. They get the hose when I catch them.

Cat urine keeps snakes away.
I HATE snakes. Damned things slither up out of no where and scare the shiite outta me.

Build a small sand box somewhere out of the way - cats will go there instead.
They just want someplace east to bury their bizniz.
