Weeeeeeell-doggies.............(in my best Uncle Jed Clampet voice....).........seems it was a Cougar work kind of weekend. Spent some time under The Heap myself. Working on stabbing the trans in.....again. You'd think I'd have this down to a science by now, but nooooooo, it's still fighting me, so, there it sits. Up on the jack, input shaft in the hole, but apparently not aligned with the stars properly, since it won't slide in. .....try some more tonight.

I get that every day when I leave or come home... because I park right next to it in the garage, and it is CLOSE... so I look at it real CLOSE

Technically it was yesterday, but so what.
Went to swap out the Pioneer ST CD player with the updated AM/8track that came in the car, no nuts. Found the knobs, can't find the nuts.
Called John' Classic Cougars, he has some he will send.
While I was online there I saw that he sells a plastic package tray (with mesh, black only) as well as the cheap ass fiberboard one I have now. I ordered the plastic one for $50. UPS Ground shipping bumps it up to $96. Anyone else hate UPS?

Since I couldn't do the stay clean stuff I went after the getting dirty jobs. Pulled the intake to replace the leaky end seal, found oxidation in the intake. Great. Today I will be cleaning that out. The only paces that scaled were the parts that were exposed to the air, the intake & heads look fine. I will do a thorough flush before adding the new coolant.

Today I plan to try out my new sand blaster gun to clean up the intake, then give it a coat or two of Nyalic clear. It would be nice to get the engine closed up tomorrow.

Hopefully today I can start putting it back together.

Any thoughts on what thermostat to use - 180? 195?

I did get everything cleaned / painted / cleared and ready to put back together yesterday. Unfortunately I don't have any good RTV to reinstall the intake.
I started looking at the wiring and have come to the conclusion that once she's up and running I need to undo/redo a bunch of stuff I have done over the years.
The poor girl has been a test bed for new innovations for 10+ years now and it shows. :(

Ended up ordering a 180 high flow thermostat. I remember I switched to 180 when the POS Mr Gasket high flow 195 screwed the pooch.
Ended up replacing the weepy POS chrome Mr Gasket thermostat housing with a cast iron one from Dorman.
Painted it Ford Blue so it matches the heater hose outlet under it.
